Stage Presence

1998 Selkirk - Park Charger by Tirol

A half-sister to Group 3 scorer and Group 1 producer Rum Charger, Stage Presence was acquired by Daylesford in December 2007.

The daughter of Selkirk had won twice in the colours of Robert Sangster and then been quick to make an impact at stud for Swettenham as the dam of 2006 Sweet Solera Stakes winner English Ballet, by Danehill Dancer. Her acquisition by Daylesford proved to be an inspired move.

To Danehill’s son Duke Of Marmalade, she produced Classic heroine Star Of Seville.

The rangy filly showed promise early on for John Gosden, running out the six-length winner of a Doncaster maiden on her second start at two. She continued to improve the following year, winning at Newbury en route to a victory in the Musidora Stakes at York. Although unplaced in the Epsom Oaks, she bounced back just nine days later to successfully make all in the Prix de Diane at Chantilly.

Star Of Seville was followed by the Listed-placed Star Of Bengal (by Oasis Dream), who attained a rating of 107, and then King Of Comedy, a son of Kingman who came within a neck of winning the 2019 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. A horse with an immense amount of ability, King Of Comedy had the likes of Too Darn Hot and Phoenix Of Spain behind him that day, and went on to fill the frame in the Juddmonte International.

King Of Comedy now stands at Novara Park Stud in New Zealand. In all, Stage Presence has foaled seven winners whilst Star Of Seville and her Deep Impact daughter Star Spirit, remain within the Daylesford broodmare band.
